LITTLETON,
Colo. and LOS ANGELES – May 8, 2003 – EchoStar
Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) and Univision Communications
Inc. (NYSE: UVN) announce that EchoStar's DISH Network™,
a leading provider of satellite television entertainment services,
will add TeleFutura, the nation's newest Spanish-language television
network, to its three DISH Latino programming packages and
its America's Top 100 programming package.
The companies also announced that DISH Network will add Univision
West, the nation's number one Spanish-language television network,
to its three DISH Latino programming packages. This will provide
a more convenient viewing schedule for DISH Latino's West Coast
viewers who currently watch Univision East. Both channels will
be available May 29 at no additional charge for new and existing
DISH Network customers.
With TeleFutura and Univision West, as well as the addition
of three TuTv Spanish-language channels (also announced today
in a separate news release), DISH Network offers the largest
basic subscription package exclusively delivering Spanish-programming
channels and at the lowest price in the nation. DISH Latino
now delivers 29 Spanish-language channels as part of its three
programming packages, DISH Latino, DISH Latino Dos and DISH
Latino Max. The DISH Latino basic subscription package is available
for less than $22 per month. TuTv is a joint venture of Univision
Communications and Grupo Televisa, S.A.
“DISH Network offers consumers more Spanish-language
channels in a basic TV package than anyone else and at the
lowest price,” said Michael Schwimmer, DISH Network's
senior vice president of Programming. “Adding Telefutura
and Univision West gives our customers the best Spanish-language
news and entertainment television.”
“We're thrilled that DISH Latino customers nationwide
soon will have access to the newest Spanish-language programming
in the country through TeleFutura and West Coast customers
will have a viewing schedule for Univision programming that
better meets their needs,” said Tim Krass, executive
vice president, Affiliate Relations, Univision Television Group. “We're
delighted to have DISH Network make this culturally relevant
programming widely available to the underserved Hispanic community.”
TeleFutura's
popular programming counters that of existing Spanish-language
television networks, airing alternative genres
during nearly every daypart. TeleFutura's signature programming
is its monumental movie library, which is among the largest
ever assembled for Spanish-language television. Signature TeleFutura
programming includes “100 Mexicanos Dijeron,” the
lively Latin version of “Family Feud;” “Guerra
de los Sexos,” featuring celebrity competitions; game
show “Aprieta y Gana;” popular talk show “Mónica;” and “Escándalo
TV,” which combines comedy, entertainment, talk and fun.
TeleFutura also features more hours of sports programming
than any other Spanish-language broadcast network, with a weekly
showcase of the most talented Hispanic boxers and the only
live nightly sports news program on Spanish-language television.
TeleFutura's lineup is rounded out with informative news briefs,
an international entertainment magazine, a hot music and dance
show, first-run and encore novelas for all members of the family,
as well as a weekend morning kids block and extensive teen-related
hit programming.
The Univision Television Network is the nation's most-watched
Spanish-language broadcast television network and the fifth
most-watched full-time network overall. As the first and foremost
24-hour Spanish-language broadcast television network in the
U.S., the Univision Network broadcasts the most popular novelas,
national and local newscasts, newsmagazines, variety shows,
talk shows, comedies and Teen and Children's programming among
the nation's 37 million Hispanics.
No matter which DISH Latino package a customer chooses, there
are two ways to get a free DISH Network satellite receiver
system and free standard professional installation.
Purchase the satellite dish and receiver for $149. The customer
then receives a $12.50 credit per month for the first 12
months of service, totaling $150 which covers the cost of
the system.
Purchase two satellite receivers and one satellite dish for
$49.99. The customer then receives a credit for $49.99 on the
first bill – equaling a free satellite television system.
This option allows customers to watch satellite television
in two rooms.
