With the addition of Huntsville, and upon the successful launch
of the DIRECTV 7S satellite, DIRECTV will offer local channels
in more than 100 markets by year-end, representing 84 percent
of U.S. television households, and is evaluating plans to add
more markets in 2003. DIRECTV today offers local channels in
56 markets, or 69 percent of U.S. television households.
"Local channels via DIRECTV continue to be a great deal
maker between consumers and satellite TV retailers, and we
expect this offer to be well-received in Huntsville, converting
cable customers who have been waiting for a complete alternative," said
Roxanne Austin, president and COO of DIRECTV, Inc. "The
take rate for local channels in the first quarter of this year
averaged 90 percent among new customers, and it continues to
be a strong growth driver in every market that we roll out."
Earlier this year, DIRECTV announced it would launch local
broadcast channel service in up to 50 additional markets this
year. Among those already launched this year are Richmond,
Va.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jackson, Miss.; Green Bay, Wis.;
and Roanoke, Va. Scheduled to roll out later this month are
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Des Moines, Iowa; Louisville, Ky.; Tucson,

As with all existing local channels markets, DIRECTV will
deliver all local broadcast channels in the new markets to
a single, small satellite dish.
