DIRECTV Receives Highest Score in American Customer Satisfaction Index for Second Straight Year

El Segundo, CA May 21, 2003 For the second consecutive year, DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading digital multichannel television service provider, today received the highest score for customer satisfaction among satellite and cable TV companies rated by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

"We're gratified to see yet another independent consumer study confirming our industry leading position in customer satisfaction," said Bob Meyers, executive vice president of Customer Satisfaction, DIRECTV, Inc. "This second consecutive ACSI top score was earned by our many dedicated employees and customer care representatives whose single-minded focus on providing our more than 11.4 million customers with incomparable service continues to set us apart from our competitors in the cable industry."

Of the satellite and cable TV companies included in the ACSI, DIRECTV posted the highest index score (72), a two-point improvement over its leading position last year. The score reflects customers' overall satisfaction with the product and service. Customers surveyed by the ACSI were asked about such issues as perceived quality, perceived value and their expectations prior to subscribing to the service. DIRECTV increased its rating in every category within the study from a year ago. The ACSI also measures customer loyalty and retention. The overall weighted average for cable TV companies was 58.

The ACSI, which is produced through a partnership with the University of Michigan Business School's National Quality Research Center, is a national economic indicator of customer evaluations of the quality of products and services available to household consumers in the United States.
